Careers - Application Engineer
Position Title: Application Engineer
Location: Appleton, WI
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Status: Full-time/Exempt

Role: Application Engineer’s play an integral role in the growth of PCC’s business by working closely with PCC Sales supporting both the technical pre-sales and post-sales efforts for the products distributed by PCC.      

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Pre-sale activities include product presentation/demonstration, customer design reviews, product selection, creating bills of material, and supporting marketing events.
  • Post-sale activities include phone support, onsite trouble shooting, application assistance, and training.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge base of the products offered by PCC and their applications by attending formal training and performing self training.
  • Work closely with other PCC departments such as Customer Service, Inside Sales, and Outside Sales to foster teamwork to exceed customer expectations and implement continuous improvement efforts.

Experience/Skills:

  • As little as 1 year of experience will be considered.
  • Position requires an understanding of industrial automation (e.g. PLC & Distributed I/O, Motion Control, Variable Frequency Drives, HMI) and industrial control (e.g. circuit breakers, motor/soft starters, relays, contactors) and their proper application.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting industrial automation solutions is a plus.
  • Experience working with Siemens PLCs, HMI, Drives, Controls or Motion Control products is a plus.

 
Education:

A Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering is desired however other engineering degrees such as Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Manufacturing Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering will be seriously considered.

Language Skills:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must. Must be able to communicate effectively with client personnel and employees at all organizational levels and develop effective working relationships with staff and a network of resources.  This includes making presentations, facilitating meetings, and presenting timely reports.

Reasoning Ability:

Individual should be able to exercise sound judgment, be able to plan, be well organized, have excellent oral and written communication skills, work well under pressure, take initiative, and be flexible and cooperative.

Physical Demands:

Position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time. Travel via a car is expected approximately 30-50% of the time. Some walking, standing, bending and carrying of demonstration equipment is required.

Computer Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products is required – Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. 

Work Environment:

Normal office environment and standard hours with occasional overtime required.  Out of office work at customer’s facility is required however overnight travel is at a minimum.  From time to time Application Engineers will attend product training which will require out of state travel and overnight stay.
